This workshop has room for 16 pre-registered, hands-on students. Others are most welcome to attend and participate.

The complete workshop is two back-to-back sessions, however; you may attend for the first session only...or second session only, if you are more advanced.

The first session will cover: 

  • artistic and practical considerations
  • design and pattern making
  • hands -on sculpture in clay
  • examples of hands of various styles and materials

The second session will cover:

  • continuation of any unfinished sculpture
  • dealing with undercuts and complex shapes
  • separators for mold making
  • plaster casting demonstration. (These techniques can be applied to making heads, feet, etc.)
  • discussion of casting materials
  • Q & A, as time allows ,and clean up

BILL LORENZEN HAS BEEN A PROFESSOR OF THEATRE DESIGN AND PUPPETRY AT THE UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH FLORIDA FOR FORTY YEARS.  DURING THIS TIME HE HAS TAUGHT MANY WORKSHOPS ON DESIGN, CONSTRUCTION AND PERFORMANCE FOR PUPPETEERS OF AMERICA AND VARIOUS OTHER THEATRE ARTS AND EDUCATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS.
