Learn the secrets behind the design, creation, and performance of life-size costume puppet characters that walk on four legs! We'll look at different types of quad designs, including both one-person and two-person designs, stilt-based and non-stilt based designs and we'll learn the pros and cons of each design. We'll learn basic walking movements for one-person designs, look at ways to best utilize all four legs of a quad character, and also how to manage your strength and energy so that you can survive in a quad suit for more than five minutes
Since 2003, I have been amazing audiences throughout Atlanta with my unqiue costume-puppet animal characters that often leave people wondering if there could actually be a person inside the costume. Performing in a style that is a throwback to the classic art of pantomime animal impersonation, I strive to bring my characters to life in a manner that replicates how the real animals they are based on would actually move about. My ever-growing menagerie includes a cute and lovable quadruped (walking on all fours) Arctic Fox, a quadruped billy goat, a fun and goofy flying fox fruit bat, a strong and coniving red-tailed hawk, a friendly three-hundred-year-old British dragon, a wily and bouncy little red fox, a hyperactive little squirrel, a South African penguin who can actually go for a swim in a pool, and even a seven-foot tall white stork!
