This lecture introduces participants briefly into history and current situation of Czech Puppetry. It outlines the development of Czech Puppet Theatre, mentions the most important moments in its history, the most outstanding personalities, and the specifics of this unique phenomenon which forms an important part of Czech culture, and in some eras, even culture of the world. Current trends and influences of Czech Puppetry will also be discussed. Following the lecture, I would like to facilitate a group discussion about current situations in puppetry , in general, to compare today's American Puppetry with my European experience.
Katerina Dolenska is a Czech National Radio Broadcaster and broadcasts her own program on Alternative and Puppet Theatre every month. In addition, Katerina is the Editor of Loutkar (Puppeteer) Magazine and the PR Manager of Divadlo Minor (Minor Theatre), in Prague. Katerina holds a PhD. in the History and Theory of Puppet Theatre from the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, Department of Alternative and Puppet Theatre.
