Puppetry in Education and Therapy is an opportunity for puppeteers, therapists, teachers, librarians, and others who work in educational or therapeutic settings to learn from Master artist-educators/therapists and from one another. It is a chance to work together to identify initiatives and set future directions. There will be presentations by puppeteers, educators, and therapists on successful projects, educational techniques, National and State Standards and research. Certificates of participation for professional credits will be given to all presenters and participants.

Puppetry in Education and Therapy is organized by Judith O'Hare, a nationally-recognized and award-winning leader in puppetry and education, with assistance from Matthew Bernier and Liz Freeman.

At the National Puppetry Festival, this event consists of three parts:

  • A keynote address and introductory session on Tuesday, July 14, 2009 from 4:15 p.m. to 5:15 p.m.

  • A one-day seminar on Sunday, July 19, 2009 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

  • An optional, informal sharing session on Sunday evening, July 19, 2009.

All parts will take place on the Georgia Tech campus.

The preliminary program is available for download.

Puppetry in Education and Therapy, also known as "The Day for the Teaching Artist and Therapist," was presented at the past two Northeast/Mid-Atlantic Regional Puppetry Festivals and was highly praised by participants. The Puppeteers of America trustees recommended that "The Day for the Teaching Artist and Therapist" be included in all future regional and national puppetry festivals.

Registration for Puppetry in Education and Therapy is not included in the 2009 National Puppetry Registration fee.

It is an additional $40 which includes all materials and lunch on Sunday. It is not necessary to register for the National Festival in order to attend Puppetry in Education and Therapy.

Registrants for the 2009 National Puppetry Festival will have an opportunity to "add-on" Puppetry in Education and Therapy during the online registration process. If staying on-campus in the dorms or apartments, they can extend their stay one night (checking out on Monday morning, July 20) for an additional $42/apartment or $31/dorm. For people staying Sunday night, there will be an evening sharing session in the dorm.

Those who wish to register only for Puppetry in Education and Therapy should complete the Seminar Registration Form and mail it, with a check for $40 payable to "The Puppeteers of America," to:
