In addition to the use of voices and music, good sound effects can enhance the quality of a puppet presentation. A variety of sound effect instruments will be presented and demonstrated in this workshop. This may include every day objects such as tin cans, door knobs, gongs, chimes, wood blocks, hand saws, irons, wind chimes, coconut shells, reel-to-reel tape, drums, bells, and whistles and maybe even a celery stalk and a bag of carrots. In this fun workshop, the participants learn about creating sound effects for a variety of puppet show scenarios.
This workshop can be of value to any puppeteer who is interested in producing a live or prerecorded presentation.

Bio of Workshop Presenter:
David Carranza, with his wife Carol, has been a full time professional puppeteer (Carranza Puppets) for over thirty years. David is a founding member of the Greater Houston Puppetry Guild and is its current President. He is a percussionist with a music degree from the University of North Texas. He uses the percussion arts to enhance their marionette productions with sound effects. David also writes original music for their puppet presentations.
