Studying with Lotte Reiniger

Description:

Nancy shares her experience of studying with Lotte Reiniger and demonstrates her method of stop-motion animation using jointed silhouettes. Student films made during the workshop and selections from Reiniger's 1929 film, "The Adventures of Prince Achmed," will be shown. This film is considered the first full length animated film ever made.

Bio of Workshop Presenter:

Nancy, a life-long puppeteer and a mentor of young puppeteers, directed the Detroit Recreation Puppeteers for over 35 years. She has trained and encouraged dozens of performers, some of whom continue to use the art in their own careers. She, in her turn, has been influenced by a variety of artists, including ground-breaking film maker, Lotte Reiniger.
