Meet the Artist

Workshop Presenter:

Allelu Kurten

Description:

These sessions are fun and fascinating for those interested in the puppeteers presenting the shows in this festival. A workshop created 17 years ago gives our puppet artists a chance to tell the whys and hows of their productions as well as their 'take' on puppetry and to answer questions in a relaxed atmosphere.

Bio of Workshop Presenter:

A puppeteer for over 45 years performing for children and adults, as The Kurten Puppets, Allelu and her husband, John, created original satires that were performed at many festivals (the last of which, "Net Worth - A Woman's Work" winning an Unima Citation). As General Secretary of UNIMA-USA for 15 years and member of the Executive Committee of UNIMA International, Allelu became widely known as UNIMAMA (the nickname given her by Burr Tillstrom). She particularly enjoys the Meet the Artist sessions that give her and the audience the chance to hear of the changes and new directions in puppetry and appreciate the variety in our field.
