Description:

Workshop will teach how to weave literature and puppetry to support classroom literacy. Both decoding and comprehension skills can be improved through drama and art. Participants will learn a number of successful projects and techniques for regular education, bilingual, and special needs students. We'll move beyond simple sock puppets to projects that can be implemented easily by K-8+ teachers. Intended for educators and those puppeteers who have short-term residencies in schools.

Bio of Workshop Presenter:

Liz Freeman has been a member of the Boston Area Guild of Puppetry and P of A since attending the MIT festival in 1989. She has been a classroom teacher and professional development leader since 1968 from nipa huts in the Philippines to urban classrooms in Pennsylvania and Massachusetts. Liz is currently an elementary special education teacher in Lowell, Massachusetts, working with many bilingual students integrating puppetry across the curriculum. She is also the coordinator for the Linden Tree Coffeehouse in Wakefield, Massachusetts. and assistant director of Puppets: Education Magic.
