The Puppeteers of America are very pleased to announce special guests Steve Whitmire and Kermit the Frog. On stage at the 75th Anniversary National Puppetry Festival, Friday evening, July 15.
Spend an evening with Steve and Kermit as they discuss their lives, their careers, their plans for the future, and their unique connection with each other.
In 1978, Steve Whitmire met Jim Henson – and his life changed forever. At age 19, Steve already had several years experience performing puppets on local television in the Atlanta area. Henson greatly admired the young performer’s work and asked Steve to join the cast for the third season of The Muppet Show in London. After finishing his first six weeks on the international hit show, Steve got married and headed to Hollywood to work on the first Muppet feature film, The Muppet Movie, all in the same month. Steve has become a core performer with the Muppets and been a part of nearly every Muppet project since, including television series, specials and theatrical motion pictures. Even with this significant list of credits, Steve’s favorite work is still the highly-improvised live television appearances and interviews on variety and news programs—an anything-can-happen performing challenge that harkens back to his start on local television.
