The Puppet Cabaret

The Puppet Cabaret is a showcase of acts that have risen above the level of Potpourri but are too short for a regular festival performance slot. It features performances that have been honed at puppet slams across the country. The Puppet Cabaret is recommended for a mature (at least in age) audience.

A Message from Lucky Yates:

HEY PUPPETEERS!
It's me, your Ol' Pal Lucky Yates. As you may or may not know, I'm the Grand Marshall of the "Best of Puppet Slam" Cabaret at the '09 Festival.

We're going to have a kick ass festival and I want the Slam to be just as awesome. Instead of the typical Slam of the past, we're trying a radical new idea of showcasing the best of the best existing Slam pieces from all over the country and are taking submissions now for what we hope is a new beginning in Puppet Slams taking over the world.

Here's the scoop:
Pieces cannot be any longer than 7 minutes. Sorry
Charlies, but we only get one crack at this and you can't bring your brilliant piece about the life and death of Rudyard Kipling that wowed them in Peoria, but it happens to be 28 minutes long plus an intermission.

Also, for the love of Mike, go easy on tech. It's a Slam fer cryin' out loud. We have only one tech person and and we're performing in a space set up by a college. You probably won't get that hi-def projector and awesome ancient gobo you
really need. Simple lights and sound make for happy puppet shows.

I wish I could say we're going to accept everyone, but you all know that's crazy talk. Reay and I will rule with a mahogany fist when making selections. Loud, fast and funny really wins me over. Reay's a girl, so kissing and hand holding will probably get to her. We're shooting for the entire event to last about a drunken hour and a half, so make 'em quick. Plus if the pieces are short, more folks can perform.

Pieces selected may be eligible for additional funding through thier local Puppet Slams.

Get those submissions in by March 31st. Please send a DVD. I don't even own a VCR any more. We will notify you by May 1st who's in. If you don't make it in, fear not. We still love you.

Please send your DVD and other promo materials to:
